About this site

I built whataryabuyin.com because I got tired of paying too much for games.

Prices in Australia can vary significantly between retailers, particularly when it comes to physical vs digital, and there was no place for console gamers to easily compare them. I found myself checking multiple sites every time I wanted to buy a game.

So I built the tool I wanted. A single place where Australian console gamers can see prices across all major storefronts side by side, and while you're at it maybe find some game deals didn't even know about. Less time searching, more time playing.

How it works

The site tracks game prices across PS5, Xbox Series X, and Switch 2 at major Australian retailers, including JB Hi-Fi, EB Games, Amazon AU, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Nintendo eShop. Prices are checked automatically on a nightly schedule and updated in the database — the timestamp on each game page tells you exactly when prices were last retrieved.

Game data — titles, cover art, release dates, and publishers — comes from IGDB, a comprehensive video game database. Prices are sourced directly from retailer websites — we have no commercial relationship with any retailer and are not paid for listing or placement.

Because prices are scraped rather than provided by retailers directly, there will sometimes be a lag between a retailer changing a price and that change appearing here. Always confirm the final price on the retailer's site before purchasing — see the price disclaimer for full details.

What it's not

This is a hobby project, not a commercial product. There are no ads, no affiliate commissions, no sponsored placements, and no user accounts. I built it for myself and made it public in case it's useful to other Australian gamers too.

It won't have every game, every retailer, or every price correct at every moment. But it's genuinely useful for the cases that matter most — checking whether it's worth waiting for a sale, or finding out that Amazon has a game $15 cheaper than everywhere else right now.

The name

whataryabuyin is a phonetic spelling of "what are you buying?" and also a personal tribute to the merchant from Resident Evil 4, one of my favourite video games. Both felt like the right spirit for a site about finding the best deal.

whataryabuyin.com is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Capcom Co., Ltd. in any way.
