The Value Verdict

Buy Now

A rare and refreshing new IP that prioritizes heart and clever mechanics over endless bloat. It's a polished, 12-hour journey that's worth every cent of its launch price.

The Gist (Spoiler-Free)

You step into the heavy pressurized boots of Hugh, an investigator trapped on a futuristic lunar facility after the facility's governing AI goes rogue. You aren't alone, though; you're accompanied by Diana, a mysterious and highly advanced android girl who is key to your survival. The goal is simple but desperate: find a way off the moon and get back to Earth.

The story is surprisingly emotional, focusing on the bond that develops between Hugh and Diana as they navigate the cold, sterile sectors of the moon. It's a quiet narrative that relies more on the chemistry between the two leads than world-ending stakes, making the final few sectors hit much harder than I expected.

The Gameplay Loop

This isn't a typical shooter. It's a sci-fi action-adventure that Capcom has built around a unique "dual-protagonist" system.

  • Hugh & Diana: You're essentially controlling two characters at once. Hugh handles the heavy lifting (shooting and jetpacking) while you use Diana to hack environmental terminals and provide support. It feels like a "left-brain, right-brain" kind of exercise that really clicks after the first hour which is admittedly a bit slow.
  • The Shelter: Between missions, you return to a home base called the Shelter. This is where the game slows down; you use "lunafilament" currency to upgrade your gear and spend time with Diana to unlock more of the story.
  • The Hook: It's a linear, focused experience. There aren't a million side icons on a map. Instead, you're moving through "Sectors" that mix physics-based puzzles with intense, high-fidelity combat. It's a welcome change of pace for anyone tired of 100-hour map-clearers that induce your completionist anxiety.

Hardware & Performance

Available on: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch 2

The Console Experience (PS5)

On the PS5, Capcom's RE Engine continues to work wonders. The lunar environments are visually stunning, specifically the lighting on the regolith.

  • Ray Tracing: The "Resolution Mode" looks incredible but can occasionally chug during heavy particle effects. I'd recommend sticking to Performance Mode to keep the 60fps lock, especially during the boss fights.
  • DualSense: The haptics are some of the best I've felt since Astro's Playroom. You can feel the distinct "thud" of Hugh's boots on different lunar surfaces and the resistance in the triggers when using your jetpack.

The PC Perspective

  • Specs: It's a heavy game. If you're running anything older than an RTX 2060, you'll need to lean on the "Performance" preset.
  • Technical Tip: For 4K players, DLSS 4.5 / FSR 4 is essentially mandatory. If you're seeing stutters in the Terra Dome, drop your Particle Quality by one notch—it clears up the lag without ruining the neon spectacle.

Is it worth the money?

  • The "Aussie Tax" Check: The digital price is currently $92.94 on the PS Store and Steam. Capcom is one of the few ethical publishers where their digital prices are logically cheaper than physical counterparts.
  • Hours vs. Dollars: It's a shorter experience, clocking in at roughly 12–15 hours for a standard playthrough.
  • The Verdict: While it's on the shorter side, it's a game where every hour is high quality and you can tell they put significant effort into it. If you're a fan of clever sci-fi, wholesome storytelling, and games that respect your time, Pragmata is definitely worth getting.
